A HUGE Surprise!
I'm in shock! Last night, I was suffering from a major case of writer's
block. I had been working most of the day on an article for the The Reporter so I could get it finished before my deadline
on Friday, and I just couldn't get into the zone no matter how hard I tried. So I logged out of Word and decided to check
my e-mail before I turned on the TV for an evening of Family Guy and My Name is Earl (my Monday night TBS
block). To my surprise, there was a message from the Eric Hoffer Award committee saying that Project June Bug had
been chosen as one of the finalists! I had to read the e-mail twice to make sure I wasn't hallucinating. I'd
sent the book in on a whim back in December, but I never thought it would go anywhere. I mean, this award is for serious writing
- they didn't even have a category for women's fiction, much less chick-lit! I figured the judges would take one look
at my book, smirk, and toss it aside in favor of something about taoist philosophy or quantum physics. To be a finalist,
a book has to be in the top ten percent of the entries, and they get thousands of entries each year. Needless to say,
I'm absolutely blown away by the news. It was the perfect ending to an otherwise frustrating day.

Spring Has Sprung
I can't believe it's been three months since I've posted anything.
Seems I just got the Christmas presents put away, and here comes the Easter Bunny! I had to make an unexpected trip to NJ
two weeks ago because my dad became ill. Thankfully, he's much better now, and the whole family got to spend Easter together
at my parents' house. The traditional Easter Egg hunt resumed this year since we finally had some family members
young enough to participate. Chasing all the grandkids around the yard was quite a workout. By the time
they got the idea that they were supposed to pick up the eggs and put them in their baskets, we grown-ups were all ready for
a nap. I'm back home in Florida now and plan to spend the next several days recuperating. On the writing front, Project
June Bug was chosen April's "Chick Lit Pick" by South Jersey Mom magazine. It got a really
nice review and a 4/5 Smiley Face rating. I'm also looking forward to the Cordon d'Or award presentation on May 16th.
I guess I'll have to think about buying something to wear - maybe after I've taken off some of my post-holiday weight.
